Three men, including former Sports Minister Oswald Homeky and the head of President Patrice Talon's security, Col Djimon Dieudonne Tevoedjre, have been arrested in Benin for allegedly plotting a coup.
The state prosecutor revealed that Homeky was caught handing over six bags of money to Tevoedjre to bribe him into not resisting the planned coup.
A businessman, Olivier Boko, who is close to President Talon, was also detained.
His lawyers have condemned his arrest as an "abduction" and are demanding his release.
The prosecutor said investigations are ongoing to identify additional suspects.
