An Egyptian warship has delivered a significant arms shipment to Somalia, including anti-aircraft guns and artillery, amid rising tensions with Ethiopia.
This follows a joint security pact signed in August between Egypt and Somalia, strengthening ties due to shared concerns about Ethiopia.
The weapons delivery, overseen by Somalia’s defense minister, has raised alarms in Somaliland, which fears the arms could fall into the hands of al-Shabaab militants.
The shipment also fuels tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia, already strained over Ethiopia’s deal with Somaliland and its military presence in Somalia.
Egypt’s support underscores its regional influence.
