Kenya will send 600 more police officers to Haiti, increasing its force to 1,000, to help fight gang violence in Port-au-Prince.
President William Ruto, visiting Haiti, praised the progress made by the current Kenyan team but acknowledged the need for better equipment, such as helicopters and drones.
The UN will decide soon whether to extend Kenya’s mission and possibly turn it into a full peacekeeping operation.
Gangs continue to expand, causing violence and displacement, with over 700,000 people affected.
More international support is needed to restore order.
