Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni's son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has announced he will not run for the 2026 presidency, urging his supporters to back his father instead.
Museveni, in power since 1986, is expected to seek re-election, though he hasn't confirmed.
Kainerugaba, a top military leader and potential successor, is known for controversial remarks, including a past threat to Kenya.
Museveni, 80, has twice changed the constitution to extend his rule, facing criticism from opposition figures like Bobi Wine, who alleges election fraud and human rights abuses, claims Museveni denies.
