Hundreds of Tunisians protested in Tunis against President Kais Saied, accusing him of authoritarianism and stifling political competition ahead of the Oct. 6 presidential election.
Demonstrators chanted slogans like "The people want the fall of the regime," amidst heavy police presence.
The unrest follows a proposed bill that would limit the administrative court's role in electoral disputes, raising concerns about the legitimacy of the upcoming election.
Opposition leader Nabil Hajji criticized Saied for disqualifying prominent candidates and warned that Tunisians must take to the streets to defend their democracy.
Saied, elected in 2019, has faced accusations of ruling by decree since 2021.
