Kwame Osei Prempeh, the CEO of GOIL Ghana PLC, has urged the government to stop granting tax waivers on imported bitumen to local contractors.
Speaking at the commissioning of Ghana's largest bitumen processing plant in Tema, a joint venture between GOIL and Côte d'Ivoire’s Société Multinationale de Bitumes (SMB), Prempeh called for a policy requiring contractors to buy locally produced bitumen.
He emphasized that this would support the local industry, prevent the import of low-grade bitumen, and boost revenue.
The new facility will produce high-quality polymer-modified bitumen, critical for durable road infrastructure.
